Last week, after picking up Aunt Branda from the airport, we had several errands to run and needless to say, both children had HAD IT by the time we were heading back home which happens to be an hour and a half drive...
About a third of the way home, Grey started to get a little fussy and started to repeat a lot of words and if we didn't repeat them too, then he got even fussier.
So, I decided to tell him the story about a momma donkey and a baby donkey (my mother told it to me just the week prior -basically, you tell the same story about a mother donkey and baby donkey walking into town and the baby donkey says, "Mommy, when are we going to get there?" And the mother donkey says, "Patience little donkey..." You tell this over and over and over and over until the child says something like stop or when is the donkey going to get there? and you say "Patience little donkey" to the child...) Anyway, I started to tell the story and after several repetitions, Grey wanted me to change the animals to horses, so I told the story over and over using horses instead of donkeys. After about 10 repetitions of this, Grey threw his head back and said "MO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He had had enough of this torture!!! : )
We all laughed and I then said "Patience little horsey....and he just stared back with a huge question mark on his face.... It was very funny. But it got us several more miles down the road... : )
