This past weekend, we flew to Colorado Springs to visit with Grandpa Guy! He is 98 years old and is doing well!
Joe's parents, Lora and Gary drove up from Dumas to meet us there so that we could take a fourth generation picture with Grandpa Guy and so that they could see Grey and Joleigh again. We had a wonderful time!
I first met Grandpa Guy about 10 years ago. He was still living in his home in Colorado Springs. I loved visiting with him because he told stories of his past... from climbing Pikes Peak during the night to see the sunrise the next morning-this is after a full days work in the bean fields and then going to a dance in the evening... to talking about his Boy Scout days! He is quick witted and is always fun to be around. A couple of years ago, Grandpa Guy needed more help, so Lora and Uncle Raymond moved him to his new home!
Grandpa Guy is living at a wonderful nursing home called The Union Printers' Nursing Home. Over 100 years ago, the Printers' Union built and opened their own retirement home for the men who were either retiring or ill. Sadly, many of these men died at what we would consider a young age because the inks and chemicals from the printing machines caused diseases such as tuberculosis. Over the years, this home had fewer and fewer residents so they opened up the home to anyone who needed either assisted living or more help. Grandpa Guy was one of the first residents to live there outside the printers' union.
The staff is wonderful and take very good care of Grandpa. The home also has many activities for the residents such as BBQ's, games, and field trips!
Here are a few pictures from our weekend!
"Good Morning, Grandpa!"
Grandpa Guy is my mother-in-law, Lora's Dad! I liked this picture!

Fourth Generation Picture! I think this picture turned out well!
A little blurry, but still a nice picture!
Every time Joe's family would visit his grandparents, they would always make time to go to Fargo's Pizza - a very unique pizzeria decorated in the Victorian Era. The servers dress in the old Victorian dress and they have decorated the inside with beautiful Victorian pieces. The most favorite attraction for the kids is the player piano. For a quarter, you can hear old time music and watch the piano and other instruments play! The building itself is beautiful but the pizza is AWESOME - probably the best pizza EVER!
The hotel we stayed in had an indoor pool so we took advantage of the warm pool and took the kids swimming. Grey was very hesitant at first but quickly started to have fun! Joleigh, however, liked it from the first dip into the water!
Joleigh had a blast!!!!!!!! She loved her little floatie!
